The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is mandated by the government to monitor West Nile virus in the five Eastern Counties. To do so, the Health Unit collects and monitors mosquitoes to determine the types of mosquitoes breeding in the area. Some breeds of mosquitoes are West Nile virus carriers, while other breeds don't seem to carry the virus.
