COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Information for Schools and Child Care Centres

Although the COVID-19 virus (previously called 2019 Novel Coronavirus) has not affected any students or schools in Eastern Ontario to date, many families have concerns about the illness and how they can protect their children. Below is information that can be shared with parents who are seeking more information:

Ontario State of Emergency and Closure of Non-Essential Workplaces:

Licensed Emergency Child Care Centres:

Licensed child care centres that have been designated as Emergency Child Care Centres for Essential Workers (per Ontario Regulation 51/20, Order Under Subsection 7.0.2 (4) Of The Act - Closure Of Establishments) are required to follow the infection control measures described in the documents below:

Private Child Care Services with 5 Children or Less:

New directives issued by the Government of Ontario state that private daycares with 5 children or less have the option to remain open as they are classified as an essential service. In alignment with the revised directives, the EOHU is advising that private daycares with 5 children or less can resume operations if they choose, provided they take the required infection control measures described in the documents below:
