Communicable Disease Guidelines for Schools and Child Care Facilities

Children are more at risk of contracting communicable diseases because of their age, their personal hygiene and because of close contact with other children. Some childhood diseases can be very dangerous or fatal to children.

The Communicable Disease Guidelines for Schools and Child Care Facilities are intended to provide principals, teachers, directors of childcare facilities and other professionals with guidance on communicable disease control. Included in the guidelines is a list of communicable diseases, as well as their:

  • causes and symptoms
  • modes of transmission
  • incubation period
  • period of communicability
  • exclusion guidelines
  • reporting guidelines
