EOHU Unveils 2025-2030 Strategic Plan to Advance Public Health and Community Wellbeing

2025-10-27

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is proud to announce the launch of its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, marking a vital moment in its 90-year history and reflecting a renewed commitment to building healthy, thriving, and equitable communities across the region.

The plan arrives at a time of both reflection and transformation – five years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought unprecedented challenges and inspired remarkable resilience within public health systems and communities alike.

“Our 90th anniversary and the pandemic’s five-year milestone are powerful reminders of both our legacy and our responsibility moving forward,” states Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health. “This plan is our roadmap to meet today’s complex health needs and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.”

Developed through broad consultation and a comprehensive environmental scan, the Strategic Plan sets out three key priorities:

  • Deepen and Expand Partnerships: Strengthening collaboration across sectors to improve health outcomes, expand service access, and respond to community needs with greater coordination and impact.
  • Optimize Organizational Culture and Workforce Development: Investing in a resilient, skilled, and supported workforce to ensure high-quality, compassionate, and responsive public health services.
  • Enhance and Optimize Operations: Modernizing systems and practices to deliver public health services that are effective, equitable, and grounded in evidence.

“We listened closely to our communities, partners, and employees to shape a plan that reflects real needs and possibilities,” says Syd Gardiner, Chair of the Board of Health. “This is a plan for the future – one that builds on our strengths and commits us to continuous growth and innovation.”

The plan also reaffirms the organization’s core mission – to work together to promote wellbeing, prevent illness and injury, and advocate for healthier communities – guided by values of integrity, commitment, collaboration, responsiveness, and people-centred care.
