Reporting Smoking and Vaping Infractions on School Property
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) 2017 prohibits the smoking of cannabis and tobacco, as well as the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) to vape any substance in enclosed public spaces, such as schools.
Smoking and vaping are not only banned within school buildings, but also on school grounds and in any area within 20 metres of school grounds.
It is also illegal to sell or supply cannabis, tobacco and vapour products on school grounds.
These laws were put in place to protect staff, students and members of the general public from second-hand smoke and vapour.
In order to enforce the SFOA 2017 laws, local public health units carry out inspections and respond to complaints regarding smoking and vaping on school property and within 20 metres of school property.
If you witness a smoking (cannabis, tobacco) or vaping infraction, or the sale or supply of cannabis, tobacco or vapour products on school property, please fill out both forms below and send them by fax to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit at 613-938-9707 (Attention: Executive Assistant).
