Let's Talk: 12 to 18 Months

Between 12 to 18 months of age, your child is starting to make more sounds, and is using some words. Although you may not understand everything he is saying… your words of encouragement will let him know he’s on the right track. This video demonstrates some of the milestones your baby should reach by 18 months of age, and some simple ways that you can support his or her growing communication skills. Concerned about your child’s speech and language development? If at any stage you have concerns about your child’s communication development, don’t hesitate to talk to your healthcare provider or your local health unit. Residents in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit region can call Health Line at 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 for information about the EOHU’s Words in Bloom speech and language development program.
